January 7, 2011 – Today Alaska Airlines inaugurated the first flight from Bellingham, Washington to Hawaii. Passengers will fly on a Boeing 737-800 airplane. The first flight departed Bellingham today for Hawaii at 5:20pm. Officials were on hand for a ceremony before the takeoff to celebrate Bellingham’s first direct flight to Hawaii. Some believe Alaska Air added the service to Hawaii after competitor Alliegiant Airlines announced plans to purchase more aircraft.
On today’s first flight were many Canadians who were trying to save money over the more expensive flights from Vancouver BC. Some found tickets for as low as $139 one-way.
